Next Sunday, October 19, we will once again host a Center Serving Dinner. The Center Serving dinners began in the Fall of 1992 - the first year of The Center's existence. The idea was to provide a typical Sunday dinner - like families have (or used to) where everyone sits down together and enjoys good food and one another's company. And we have been having Center Servings Dinner on the Third Sunday of every month ever since! In the beginning we would use the great kitchen and hall at the Methodist Church on Grand Avenue. But ever since we've had our beautiful building we've been able to host the dinners right at home. In the beginning we did it all ourselves - some of the same people came every month and cooked, set up, cleaned up.(We didn't have a dishwasher there and so it was a challenge!) Now we have so many great folks who want to help us that we don't have enough Third Sundays! This coming week, October 19, The Shrewsbury Presbyterian Church will once again cook and serve. And we're delighted to have them help! Other communities that choose a Sunday are St. Catherine's in Spring Lake, Cedar Village at Ocean, St. Anselm's, Wayside, The BLD Prayer Group, Catholic Daughters, and a group that calls themselves The Red Bank Friends has been doing the Christmas Dinner (on the Third Sunday of December) for years.
And so we continue a Center Tradition - we gather around food and give thanks for those who serve, our guests who grace us with their presence and the community we create together.
