Thank You Oceanport Troop 58
|
Boy Scout Troop 58 was busy this past Sunday collecting food that residents had donated as part of a food drive to benefit The Center in Asbury Park. The prior week scouts fanned out across the borough and dropped bags door-to-door.
A total of 1,500 bags were distributed and this past Sunday the filled bags were collected. Final tally on the food drive was about 1,200 pounds of food. The amount of food collected filled a good-sized pickup truck three times.
Father Bob Kaeding, Executive Director and Founder of The Center was thrilled with the work of the scouts. "Its amazing what the kids did. Last Friday we had people at The Center worrying about the empty shelves in our pantry. On Monday they came in to bags and bags of food. The energy, the service, the dedication of the Scouts is awesome! I hope they know that they are a life-line to people in need. These kids make the whole community proud!"
The food drive is an annual event for the scouts. And while they don't earn a badge for their work the activity helps the boys achieve their rank requirements and is a example of their dedication to live the scout oath and law in their ever day lives.
